Westmoreland walk about

Councillor Sharon Ball and I went for a lovely walk around the Westmoreland ward today.  We met and talked with a number of residents.

Whilst out we came across a number of issues, including a large amount of waste shown above that we have reported.

We also picked up 2 bags of litter that had been strewn about on Loxton Drive.

If you have any issues on your street and you think we may be able to help, please do get in touch.

Vernon Park

Again, this week I spent time clearing up the mess below, as residents think it is acceptable to dump their rubbish out whenever they want.

All rubbish should be put out no earlier than the evening before collection, and by 7am on the morning of collection, to ensure it is not missed.

Only black bags/dustbins of household waste will be collected by the teams.  They will not collect large household items eg furniture buy will remove small electrical items (items that will fit into a carrier bag).

The Hollow

We have contacted the cabinet member to request the bin that has been placed at the bottom of The Hollow/top of Lansdown View is moved.

We have requested this bin is placed next to the bus stop, close to the shop, this will hopefully help to reduce the amount of litter that is dropped in this location and also the large amount of litter that regularly accumulates at the entrance to The Brickfields.

We will keep you updated on progress with this request.

Vernon Park - Litter

Following the waste collections yesterday, a large amount of litter was left through Vernon Park.

Councillor Sharon Ball and I have cleared this and have also reported the lack of collection of the recycling and requested this is picked up as soon as possible.

Westmoreland Walkabout

We have had a very busy morning around Westmoreland today.  We have been delivering the latest tri-ward focus and also clearing up some of the streets.

We have picked up litter on Lymore Avenue, Cynthia Avenue, Claude Avenue and Crandale Road. Collecting 3 bags of rubbish from these roads.

We spoke with a number of residents that were pleased to see us out on a Sunday clearing their streets, making the area a cleaner place to live.

We have identified a number of other roads in the area that need a clean up and will be aiming to do these over the next week.

Community Clear up - update

Last Saturday, 20th July a group of Liberal Democrat Councillors, our MP Don Foster and local activists and residents spent a couple of hours clearing litter and rubbish from around the Brickfields area.

Above is a picture of some of us, with some of the waste that was collected.

We also arrange regular larger scale group litter picks throughout the South West of Bath.

The Picture opposite is from a recent litter pick on the Lower Bristol Road, we expect at least the same amount if not more litter this morning.

Loxton Drive clear up

We spent a couple of hours talking with residents and clearing up the large amount of litter around Loxton Drive, Lansdown View and Priddy Close.

We will be out every Saturday in different areas of Westmoreland Litter picking and talking to residents.

Each week will depend on the state of the areas as we will be targeting the roads most in need. If you want to join us, please get in touch and we will let you know where we will be.

Westmoreland Litter

We spent a couple of hours out clearing litter from streets in Westmoreland today.

Bellotts Road was quite bad, so much litter mixed with the leaves we decided it was easier to clear the leaves as well.  This resulted in 8 bags collected here in total.

We then moved onto another area of the ward, clearing 4 bags of litter from Lymore Gardens and part of Lymore Avenue.

Had lovely conversations with quite a few residents while we were out, they were happy we were out making a difference.

Sunny Saturday

With such a sunny day in Bath, we could not resist the opportunity to be out and about talking to residents and helping to care for our community.

Sharon and I were joined by a number of people on the platform at Oldfield Park Station for photos. Next week, the Council’s Cabinet is due to discuss business case funding for the Metro West project. This is a joint project with the other West of England Authorities, which aims to provide enhanced local rail services for the West of England, more details will be in our April focus newsletter.

We then went and took a look around the Heritage Fair at Bath City FC, very interesting information on display.

Sharon and I then went onto a very busy ward surgery at the Ascension Church, Claude Avenue, talking to a number of local residents about a range of issues and concerns.

I then decided to make the most of this bright weather and went to pick some litter in the ward.  In just 30 minutes I picked up 2 bags of litter.

We will be out and about again tomorrow, so if you have any issues feel free to stop us and have a chat.

Lower Bristol Road

This morning a group us went out and cleared the rubbish that has been dumped around the Herman Miller Building on the Lower Bristol Road.

We collected 15 bags of rubbish, as well as a travel cot, broken umbrella and discarded recycle bin.

Thank you to those that came out and helped Sharon and I clear up the area, despite the cold weather.

We have also reported the increasing levels of graffiti around this area to BANES and requested it is cleaned up as soon as possible.

Claude Avenue/Cynthia Road

Following the Waste Collections yesterday, I went out this morning and picked up 8 bags of litter along Claude Avenue, Bridge Road, Cynthia Road and Mayfield Road.

I was shocked at the amount of litter left behind.  It is important to make sure all waste is put out on the correct day and in suitable containers to reduce the quantity that is left behind.

If you do not have suitable receipticles for your recycling, please get in touch with the Waste Services Team at BANES, who will be happy to help/advise you.

Lower Bristol Road

Sharon and I have just returned from a very busy hour clearing litter along the Lower Bristol Road, between the Windsor Bridge and the student accommodation blocks.

We collected 7 bags full of litter as well as old paint cans, a child's ride on toy and an old door.

We are keen to ensure all areas of Westmoreland are kept clean and will be carrying out more clear up activities throughout the ward.

If you are interested in joining us, please get in touch.

Litter picking Bellotts Road to Brook Road

Litter picking yesterday
I spent nearly 3 hours clearing the litter from alongside the Cemetery at Bellotts Road and along the back path by the railway to Brook Road.

one of the bags I collected
I collected two very full bags, why people have to drop so much litter I do not know.
