(BROOK ROAD, BATH) (TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF PARKING) ORDER 2014

Notice is given that Bath and North East Somerset Council in exercise of its powers under section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 intends to make an order the effect of which will be to temporarily suspend parking in that length of Brook Road, Bath extending from the party wall of Nos. 32 and 33 Brook Road to the party wall of Nos. 33 and 34 Brook Road.
This order is required because works are being or are proposed to be executed on or near the road to facilitate a new gas supply to No 33 in the carriageway and will be operative on 27th May 2014 for a maximum period of two weeks. The road will only be restricted as and when traffic signs are in position and may not be effected for the whole of the period but only for so long as is necessary to execute the works. This is anticipated to be for three days.

Litter picking

Sarah and I spent a good few hours on Tuesday night clearing up litter on Brook Road, Lymore Ave
and Vernon Park.

All in all we collected several bags of litter from all of these roads and were surprised to find that Vernon Park was so bad after only clearing it up a week earlier.

A pattern that we are finding is that some people are putting food waste out in their black bag waste is concerning and we have taken this up with council officers.

We are out in Westmoreland on a regular Tuesday night speaking with residents and will soon be in a street near you if you have any concerns or worries then please speak to us.

Brook Road Rubbish

We have complained about the state of Brook Road after a recent refuse collection in the street where
food waste was scattered over the pavements after being put out in general rubbish bags and not in the black food recycling bins.

We have asked that a leaflet drop is carried out in this street reminding residents of the need to keep food waste secure otherwise it is an easy target for Gulls in the area.

Please ask your neighbour if see them not recycling properly not to put food waste out as easy food for Gulls.

Brook Road

The Council are proposing parking restrictions on parts of Brook Road and on balance these seem quite sensible.

A Map below shows the extent of the proposed restrictions, if you have any concerns then please let us know.

Inverness Road residents

We had a very busy morning yesterday talking to local residents in Inverness Road and are now attempting to resolve some of the issues that were raised with us.

There is concern form some residents about the Linear Way that will soon be opened up via the old railway bridge about how the cyclists and pedestrians will respect the neighbouring houses.

Issues were also raised about graffiti and hedge cutting on the Linear Way and we are attempting to resolve these issues.

A matter of an empty house has been referred to the councils empty property section to resolve.

The matter of the lane from Bellotts Road to Brook Road has again been raised and we have asked for an investigation about having the graffiti removed from the buildings along this path.

Seagull issues

It is great to see that following action by both Westmoreland ward Councillors, Bookers Cash & Carry have finally started to take action against the seagulls by putting netting on their roof.

This will hopefully prevent future nesting on the roof and help to decrease the numbers of seagulls in this particular area of the ward.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the residents in Brook Road and Bellotts Road that signed the petition that I organised and sent to both the local Bookers warehouse and their head office to ask for this action to be taken.

Westmoreland Graffiti Update

The number of complaints received by residents about the grafitti around the area have increased recently and we are keen to get this sorted as soon as possible.

On Friday, Local Beat Manager PC Adrian Secker said: “Graffiti is a problem in the area and it’s something we take very seriously. It’s criminal damage, not art, and costs everyone in the community tens of thousands of pounds a year to clean up. We work closely with our partners at Bath and North East Somerset Council to investigate who is responsible, and we take a very robust approach to bringing them to justice. We have recently made some arrests, a number of people have been bailed and we are awaiting a charging decision from the Crown Prosecution Service. As ever, we rely very much on the public to be our eyes and ears – so my message to everyone is to be a good neighbour and tell the police if you know anyone who is spoiling your community.”

Since this statement was released, we are pleased to confirm that one individual has been formally charged and will appear in court shortly.  Investigations are on-going into the activities of other people and further updates will be provided when they are available.
