Planning Application - High Street, Twerton

Existing view along the High Street
Proposed view along the High Street
We are pleased to see a planning application has been submitted on yet another derelict building within Westmoreland ward.  The site, 151-152 High Street, Twerton, was formally used as an office equipment supply business but has been derelict for over 5 years.

Plans have now been submitted to demolish the existing building and erect a property containing 9 x 1 bedroom flats with a small courtyard garden to the rear.

Your views are invited on this proposal with a deadline of 12th February 2015, full details can be found here on the BANES Website.

Bath Press site public consultation

We know that local residents are aware that there is a potential planning application pending for the Bath Press site on the Lower Bristol Road.

The process has been so far that the owners of the site have had pre-application talks with the Council including local councillors being asked their opinion.

The owners of the site are now about to engage with local residents neighbouring the site on their plans for any development.

This will be followed by a public exhibition on 29th October from 2pm to 8pm at Oldfield Park Baptist Church.

A flyer that will be distributed to the community by the site owners is reproduced below.

Lansdown View / King Georges Road Housing

We are pleased for residents of Lansdown View who through a lot of effort were able to persuade a planning inspector to reject an appeal by Curo to build 21 Houses on a piece of land behind their homes.

We however expect that another planning application will come in shortly on this site to build homes although we would not expect to see the numbers in the application recently rejected.

We will publish further details of any application on this site as soon as we know of one.

Bath Press Site

We are expecting a planning application shortly for a housing and office development on the Bath Press site.

We understand that the development will be of mixed housing and grade A office accommodation.

We are also led to believe that the frontage of the Bath Press building will be preserved in some way or another.

One issue that we are most certainly aware of is that there is no retail on this site.

Once the application is in we will publish full details on this site so residents will be able to have their say on how the site is developed.

In the mean time we would like to hear from residents on what they feel should happen to the site so that we can feed this in at an early stage.

Please contact us to discuss further.

BREAKING NEWS: Bath Press Site

We have become aware of a pending planning application on the Bath Press Site for 300 flats and 30,000 square feet of office employment space.

We are led to believe the the front facade is to remain and that all residential accommodation will be at the rear with all parking underground.

We are aware that some of this will alarm some residents so will post full information on line at www.sharonball.org.uk including a residents consultation.

We will also deliver a paper copy to all affected residents within the next two weeks.

BANES Core Strategy

The Liberal Democrats have welcomed the final adoption of the B&NES Core Strategy, hailing it as good news for the area.

The Core Strategy, which has been in preparation since 2007, was adopted by 40 votes to 21 with Councillors from all parties voting in favour of the strategy.

Councillor Sharon Ball commented “The final adoption of the Core Strategy is good news for our area because it paves the way for homes and jobs to be delivered for local people. Everyone will have heard stories of local people who have been forced to move to Bristol or further afield to find somewhere affordable to live, despite working in Bath. We can’t help solve this problem without building more homes. Local people need homes, services and jobs.”

Lib Dem Campaigner Sarah Moore said The Core Strategy being adopted was the only deal on the table for B&NES.  Without it the council would not have any defence against speculative planning applications on any piece of land throughout the district."

Shophouse Road ( Development )

I have made objections to the proposals for the development of 4 1 bedroom flats at 30 Shophouse Road Twerton.

I have made the following objections on line

1) This is over development of the site due to the very compact area that is being proposed for the development it is high on a bank and will have an overlooking affect that will dominate the local area.

2) The lack of on site parking, there is no room to park on the street in this congested area that is now being used for commuter parking.

And in a separate email to the case officer I have made the following comments.

I refer to the above application where I have made comments on line of why I feel that this application is unsuitable in this area.

I would ask that if you are minded to approve this application you would refer it to the development control committee.

This application would amount to over development of this site it is also misleading as it implies that there is plenty of on street parking when in fact there is none.

If you have not made comments on this application you are still able to do so online or in writing quoting application reference number 14/00485/FUL

Bellotts Road Bridge, (listed wall knocked down)

Although we are delighted to see the work going on to get the former metal bridge over the railway at Bellotts road back into use for both Cyclists and pedestrians we are concerned that the contractor has removed a listed wall at the site.

We have asked that this wall is reinstated as soon as possible and have asked the council how the removal of this wall was allowed to take place without planning permission.
We will update this article as soon as we hear back from the council with regards to how the contractor and council are going to proceed on this matter.

King Georges Raod

The planning application for houses built by Curo on the former allotment site at Lansdown View was yesterday referred for a site visit by members of the planning committee in early January.

After the site visit the application will return to committee for determination, Many residents presented some powerful arguments against the development and we just hope that planning committee members will be convinced by the arguments.

Although we understand that there is a need for affordable homes in the area it must not be at any cost.

King Georges Road Planning application

I have raised objections to the planning application to build houses on the former allotment site at King Georges Road.

The Objection that I have raised is as follows:

I would to raise an objection to the planning application on the grounds of over development of the site as I believe that their are too many houses being crammed into a very small site.

I have gone through the National Policy Framework quite closely and it is clear that development is normally permitted in these sort of schemes as most of our planning policies are set aside at the moment the guidelines of the NPPF apply as we do not have a current adopted local plan.

I would still however ask you to take into account the small site that is close to a railway track that by the looks of the layout has at least 5 to many properties on the site making it overdeveloped.

The affects on the Junction with Lansdown view would also have highway concerns and should not be permitted without works being carried to mitigate the extra traffic that is being created.

So in short I am objecting to the current application.

Lidl - a new era?

Councillor Sharon Ball and Liberal Democrat campaigner Sarah Moore are delighted
to confirm, after working closely with Lidl over the past 2 years, a planning application is due to be submitted later this month to develop a Lidl store on
the former Herman Miller site.

Councillor Sharon Ball said: "residents have been telling us for a long time that they want
the former Herman Miller building used as a Lidl store and I will be supporting the planning application, this has gone on far too long and the area needs this site developed".

Liberal Democrat campaigner Sarah Moore said: "your views are very important for the development of this site and we would like to encourage all residents to express their views as part of this process".

Full details of the planning application will be posted on the BANES website as soon as it has been submitted and everyone will be able to make comments.
