Bath City Farm Green Life Skills Programme
This is a 10-week practical course for learners to develop back to work skills within a farm setting. It is funded by the Southwest Foundation through the European Social Fund.
Run along side the farm’s regular volunteering programme, participants will attend for 1½ days per week. One day (Monday) will be completely activity based (animal care, gardening, conservation work or site maintenance) the other half day (Wednesday morning) will concentrate on planning, signposting, supervision and skills taster sessions. The group will carry out a small project on the farm. They will have a budget of £250 to spend on materials and will be supported in planning, budgeting and carrying out risk assessments for the task. Participants will gain practical skills such as tool use, animal care, basic horticulture, budgeting and basic project planning. They will also gain functional and soft skills that are transferable such as literacy, timekeeping, team -working, and self-motivation.
Who is it for?
The course is for individuals who would like to take the first steps into getting in employment. Participants must be unemployed or working less than 16hours a week. Anyone who will benefit under this programme must not be currently benefiting from an European Social Fund training or support programme. This includes New Deal, though they can benefit if coming to the end of the process and this is part of the ‘moving on’ process.

Celebrate National Family Week
Bath & North East Somerset Council’s libraries and children’s centres will be marking the first ever National Family Week (May 25 – 31) by celebrating storytelling, books and reading. There will be a range of events across the area for children, including baby rhyme-times, story-times and sing and sign rhyme-times.
Bath & North East Somerset Council has a commitment to improving the life chances of all its residents, and working with children to develop a love of reading at an early age is an important element of that. This is an opportunity for all the family to get involved in reading aloud and sharing stories.
Reading books with very young children not only encourages reading, widens vocabulary and ignites children's imagination, it's also an incredibly simple and effective way of strengthening relationships within families.
Bath & North East Somerset Council’s libraries and Children’s Centres are working together to introduce more children to books and reading at an early age.
