Sort This Out
The area at the bottom of Shophouse Road has been annoying local people for a long time and we have asked that this area is cleared of all of the rubbish and half grown weeds that are there. The site is privately owned and the land owner has failed to deal with the issue do we have asked the enforcement action is taken to clear this mess up.

Lidl decision “should have gone to planning committee”
Local Councillors Sharon Ball and Lynda Hedges (both Lib Dem, Westmoreland) have criticised the Chair of B&NES Council’s planning committee for his decision not to allow the Lidl supermarket planning application to be heard in public at the planning committee meeting last week.
Lidl had applied to convert the former Herman Miller factory on Lower Bristol Road into a new supermarket.
Councillor Lynda Hedges said:
“This supermarket would have been in Westmoreland ward and has the support of the local community. As such I tried to contact the Chair of the committee, on the day before the meeting, to ensure that this application would be heard in public.
“However the Chair did not respond to my telephone call despite the fact that he had spoken to the Lidl representative only moments before. I feel that he deliberately refused to speak to me so as to ensure the application would not come to committee.”
Councillor Sharon Ball added:
“This planning application should have gone to planning committee. As a major application, for a major development, there should have been an opportunity for the pros and cons to be debated in public. As it was, permission was refused on 16 April by planning officers using ‘delegated authority’.
“The Chair of the committee should have thought about the public interest – this supermarket has a lot of support in the community. I am truly disappointed and I am sure the thousand-odd residents who supported the application will be equally unhappy.”

Midland Road Barriers installed
New barriers have been installed at Victoria Bridge on Midland Road to prevent motorcycle access. We have asked that this area is protected for cyclists and walkers alike but motorcycle access has been causing a danger to both pedestrians and cyclists alike.
The Barriers have do not look at all good and we have asked that these are looked at again.
