Lidl proposed development Lower Bristol Road.

Lidl have now held 2 open days to show off their plans for the development of the former Herman Miller site on the Lower Bristol Road the first on was held at Twerton Village Hall last week which over 400 local residents visited. A second open day was held on Wednesday 25th February at the Guildhall in Bath where hundreds more people attended.

Lidl have described the open days as a great success with the vast majority of visitors welcoming their plans. We understand that if their latest planning application is approved they will be in a position to develop and open a new store by the end of the year.

The issue of travellers on site is still causing concern and Lidl have told us that they are now taking legal action to have them removed.

NEWS OF FLOOD RISK AND BIG FREEZE UPDATE – Council update, afternoon 10th February (4.20pm)

Weather Forecast
Due to recent heavy rain and snow melt, the River Avon in Bath is expected to reach a peak level at around 7pm this evening. The Environment Agency advises that the river levels will not result in significant flooding in Bath or settlements up and down stream.
If people are concerned about flooding, the Environment Agency website contains more information. The general weather forecast is that weather conditions are expected to improve over the next 3 to 4 days with dry and sunny weather, although cold nights will continue.
Bath and North East Somerset Council continues to monitor the forecast so that it can make any plans necessary, and will work alongside NHS Bath and North East Somerset, Fire, and Police services if needed.
Flooding – Impact on local area
Bath and North East Somerset Council has liaised with its partners, e.g. Police, Environment Agency, and NHS Bath and North East Somerset, in assessing the risk of disruption as the result of localised flooding. The situation is under control. Sandbags have been made available to those homes that are close to localised flooding. If anyone is concerned about their property flooding they can contact the Environment Agency Floodline on 0845 988 118.
 Highways update
There are three roads closed in the area because of flooding – Love Hill, Timsbury; Carlingcott, Wick Lane; Farmborough, Priston Lane. Bath and North East Somerset Council continues to monitor the road conditions very closely.
The Council will continue to monitor road conditions and will provide additional salting and gritting when required. Aside from road closures due to flooding the road network is running well, there remains the risk of icy patches, so motorists are advised to use caution on side roads and untreated roads.
Highways Inspectors are inspecting the condition of the roads following the atrocious weather conditions. Snow and ice can potentially damage the highway service. The Council will seek to repair these as soon as possible. Residents are asked to bear with the Council given the appalling weather.
Pedestrians should be careful on pavements where ice may still remain in some places. This particularly applies to areas on higher ground where the snowfall was heavier and there is less footfall than cities, where a greater number of pedestrians and vehicles have circulated any salt used by the Council.
The Council continues to prioritise its use of salt stocks. This will ensure that sufficient stocks are conserved should the weather deteriorate to ensure that all principal routes continue to be salted through to our next anticipated delivery of salt.
 Public space and Car Parks
All car parks are open. Park and Ride sites are open and operational. Motorists are asked to use the sites with care due to settled snow and ice in some places of the parking areas. The Park and Ride sites were operational on Wednesday morning.
 Public Transport
For First Bus services, residents are urged to check their Twitter website which is regularly updated: http://bathcsc.info/
 Waste and Recycling
Collections are being picked up Wednesday Thursday, Friday - there will be double collections with additional staff on hand to cope with the demand where needed. Residents are asked to put out their refuse, recycling, and garden waste as normal.

BIG FREEZE – Council update 7th Feb

The latest update from Bath and North East Somerset Council about the impact of the winter conditions.
Updated 10am, 7.2.09 – PLEASE NOTE THIS UPDATE WILL COVER THE WEEKEND PERIOD.
Weather forecast update
The weather remained dry and cold overnight. As expected, road temperatures plummeted in the early hours of Saturday morning which made road and pavement conditions hazardous. Road temperatures are likely to fall below freezing throughout the weekend. The weather is predicted to remain dry and cold throughout the weekend. If people need to make essential journeys we would advise that they try as far as possible to make these in the afternoon periods when temperatures are higher. If residents have to travel, the Council advises anybody to plan carefully for any journeys and keep a close eye on the weather forecast. The Council is liasing with partners such as police, fire and the PCT to co-ordinate efforts.
Highways update
Bath and North East Somerset Council continues to monitor the road conditions very closely. The Council’s Highways team has been working 24 hours a day to manage the situation. Salting runs were undertaken during the early hours of Saturday morning. Gritting vehicles will continue to treat problem spots. Inspectors were checking the road network throughout the night. The Council will continue to monitor road conditions over the weekend and will provide additional salting and gritting when required.
All main roads and treated routes are passable with care, although side roads, minor roads, and untreated roads should be avoided. As of Saturday morning, there were no road closures or notifications of any recent accidents. The Council has made a concerted effort to treat hospital access routes and continues to monitor these roads.
The Council recognises that it is important to prioritise its use of salt stocks throughout the weekend. This will ensure that sufficient stocks are conserved to ensure that all principal routes continue to be salted through to next week.
If freezing rain falls following salting, and traffic levels are low, the salt can be ineffective. This means that despite salting and gritting, roads and car parks can remain treacherous. Therefore the Council is advising all members of the public to take great care when driving or walking under these conditions.
Public space and Car Parks
Street cleansing teams will be re-deployed on Saturday to attempt to keep all car parks open. Council staff will monitor the situation in ALL Council car parks and apply salt when necessary.

This action includes redeploying staff that would normally carry out street cleansing to assist motorists at the site. However, the operation of the Park and Ride buses is dependent on First Bus – please note these buses operate Mondays to Saturdays only. Residents can find out more information about all First Bus operated services. The First Bus update line is 01225 494907 or call 0845 606446 - service updates also available at: http://bathcsc.info/
