The view from around the city is now changing, two cranes have been seen on site in Westmoreland assisting with the demolition of the last remaining gas tower.

This will then make space for the continuation of the regeneration in the area.

Marks & Spencer come to Weston Lock

After getting the go ahead for Lidl on the former Herman Miller site one of the worst kept secrets in the area is out and that is Marks & Spencer are to take up residence at Weston Lock on the Lower Bristol Road.

A new planning application has been submitted for Marks & Spencer Just food to occupy half of the site currently occupied by Curry's and PC World.

This exciting project means there will be greater choice for local residents on their shopping needs.

Marks and Spencer tell us that they will be employing local staff and that there would be about 65 new jobs created.

Walk around with Curo

I had a good walk around the Lansdown view estate today with with officers from Curo looking at matters of concern in the area.

In Shophouse Road we were dealing with the issue of a gate that a resident wanted to install and in King Georges Road we looked at the grass area that residents have wanted Removed at Lansdown View.

We also reported the light under 57  as not working.

Triangle North - resurfacing update

Although the road along Triangle North and Stanley Road West has been resurfaced, the parking restriction lines and disabled parking bays are still not repainted.

A number of residents have raised concern over the lack of the lines and have asked why they have not been re-instated.

We have been told that the surface treatment needs a certain amount of curing time before any lining is replaced otherwise the newly painted lines would peel off.

We have been assured by the Highways Team that, weather permitting, both Triangle North and Stanley Road West should be completed within the next week.

Lymore Gardens Play area

Following a number of communications with the Council's Parks team, we are pleased to see work is well under way to enhance the equipment at the small play area at Lymore Gardens.

The old multi-activity equipment has been removed and a nice new piece is currently being put in place.

This work is being carried out as part of a BANES wide Liberal Democrat Administration commitment to updating a large number of play areas as well as a campaign I started over 18 months ago to get this small play park cleaned up for use by the small children in this area.

Police in new accomodation

We know that the rumours are rife in the community regarding the Police relocating part of their operations to the Lower Bristol Road after selling their Police headquarters at Manvers Street to the University of Bath.

We are trying to get confirmation from various sources of the Police taking on the other half of the Former Herman Miller building next door to the new Lidl that is being developed.

We would be pleased as would many of the residents in the community if the Police were to take on this part of the building and would be keen to support the Police in such a move.

We will of course publish any information that we receive confirming this news.

It would be good to get this whole site cleared up and leave a nice clean acceptable entrance to our world Heritage site.

Bath Press site public consultation

We know that local residents are aware that there is a potential planning application pending for the Bath Press site on the Lower Bristol Road.

The process has been so far that the owners of the site have had pre-application talks with the Council including local councillors being asked their opinion.

The owners of the site are now about to engage with local residents neighbouring the site on their plans for any development.

This will be followed by a public exhibition on 29th October from 2pm to 8pm at Oldfield Park Baptist Church.
