Bellotts Road Bridge, (listed wall knocked down)

Although we are delighted to see the work going on to get the former metal bridge over the railway at Bellotts road back into use for both Cyclists and pedestrians we are concerned that the contractor has removed a listed wall at the site.

We have asked that this wall is reinstated as soon as possible and have asked the council how the removal of this wall was allowed to take place without planning permission.
We will update this article as soon as we hear back from the council with regards to how the contractor and council are going to proceed on this matter.

Children Centre

Residents have been asking about the Council debate on Children's Centres and what is happening in the communities.

The Bath Chronicle ran a fairly accurate story on what happened on the night and Links are available here for that article.

A further article based on the Chronicle story including a few more facts and the motions moved by all three political parties is on Sharon Ball's personal web site.

King Georges Road

The controversial planning application to build 21 units on a former allotment site to the rear of Lansdown View have been refused by the councils planning committee.

The reasons for refusal are the same as a written statement that I sent to the planning committee this afternoon to be read out to members by the Clerk.

These were

1) Over development of site

2) Access issues

I am pleased that the application has been refused.

Two Tunnels

Claude Ave

The trees on the embankment at the proposed new ramp location are due to felled next week which will lead onto the installation of the new ramp .

It is proposed that the ramp construction will commence at the end of January, During the construction of the ramp it will necessary to close the 2 Tunnels Greenway for a short period of time for safety measures.

A diversion will be in place and  endeavours will be made to keep this closure to a minimum period of time.

We will publish more information as and when it becomes available.

Bus Stop oposite Argyle Terrace

I have received confirmation that the bus shelter opposite Argyle Terrace has been programmed in for re-installation on Thursday 23rd January.

In the meantime, the operator (First) have been issued with a staff notice to remind bus drivers that they should still be stopping there, even though there is no pole or flag in place.

Westmoreland Bus Stops

Following recent requests from residents we are pleased to see the Bus Stop opposite Vernon Terrace is finally being altered.  As part of the new bus stop installations throughout the area, the raised pavement is being moved next to the bus shelter, meaning that the queue under the shelter will be in the correct direction, alleviating the confusion over where the front of the queue should be.

We have also asked that the bus stop opposite Argyle Terrace is replaced as soon as possible.  When the pavement alterations were carried out recently, the old bus shelter was removed and the raised pavement has been put in a little further down the road.

However, the new shelter has not yet been put in place and therefore no sign has been put up to show where the bus stop is.  This has resulted in a number buses not stopping there and residents left not knowing if they have to go to a different stop.

We have requested if a full installation is not possible at the moment that a temporary bus stop sign is put in place urgently to ensure residents are confident the buses will stop to pick them up.

New Year clear up

During a walk around the Westmoreland ward, we noticed a number of rubbish hotspots and have requested that these are cleared up.

We would like to ask all residents across the ward to make 2014 the year everyone of us takes pride in the area we live and help prevent the volume of rubbish that is dumped.  We are all responsible for our own waste and it should be disposed of responsibly.

Full details of what can be collected and recycled from outside your home is shown on the BANES website (http://www.bathnes.gov.uk/services/bins-rubbish-and-recycling).

If you are unsure when you rubbish and recycling is due for collection, please either check the BANES Website or contact us.
